Civil servants who allocate billions of pounds to university teaching are secretly opposing moves which would ban spending on “Mickey Mouse” degree courses. Examples include: Third World Development with Pop Music, Dance with Equine Studies, joint honours in Waste Management and Dance, Equestrian Psychology, joint honours degree in Criminology and Pop Music Production, Geology and Popular Culture. A ticking time bomb of American debt. Over $830 billion are owed by college students in the US with $3 thousand more added on every second. The most traditional financial baggage for Americans was credit card debt. For the first time, debt belonging to college students has over taken that number one spot. Economist Max Wolff said, “
Students graduating in 2008, 2009 and 2010 are facing the worst job markets in a generation at least. And so you have people with more debt that we have ever seen before, who are having a harder time finding any job, let alone a job that pays them enough to somehow pay off all this debt
.”

Imperial College to establish medical school in Singapore

Imperial College London is to set up a new medical school in Singapore in the latest move by an elite British university to establish a presence in Asia. Jointly run by Imperial and Singapore's Nanyang Technological University, the medical school will teach over 750 students when it is fully established, the majority of whom will be local residents.
University Attendance Scanners Make Some Uneasy

When classes begin on Monday, some students at Northern Arizona University will have a little extra incentive to roll out of bed for that 8 a.m. calculus class. The school is installing electronic scanners outside some large lecture halls to track attendance. NAU may be the first American educational institution to try the technology.
